Say No to Loneliness this Winter

This Winter Prama want to make it possible to reduce isolation for older people, whether that's putting a smile on someone's face after a phone call, getting them down to one of the groups or clubs that are held weekly. So that they can meet new friends, enjoy games and activities held or even just receiving a Christmas card from the Prama Team.

This winter may be difficult for many, with the unprecedented times upon us, older people may not be able to spend this time with their loved ones. This is why JustGiving are raising funds for PramaLife's - telephone friendship groups, clubs, groups and activities for older people and carers, enabling them to lead independent and fulfilling lives, by enhancing their health and well-being.

PramaLife works across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and east Dorset, offering a range of community-based activities which lead to increased personal independence, self-sufficiency and dignity. In an average month we are supporting more than 800 people.

Feedback from some of Prama's group members:

"I have been physically and mentally ill for many years and have felt very welcome and made friends."

"This group is a lifeline for me and John. As his carer the group offers me emotional support and as well its a great source of socialising/stimulation for John - please, never reduce the weeks."

"This group brings friendship, laughter, and joy of understanding what everyone has learnt through life. Each person has a story to tell."

"I find the group inspirational - it is often a wake-up call!"

"I get a lot out of this, including new friends and a sense of belonging. I love it when I do the keep fit club because they all chat to me and ask me how I am."

"I am a volunteer for this group but being among people makes life interesting, I enjoy coming to this group."

A £10 donation would cover the cost of one 45 minute Telephone Friendship Group for 10 Older People / Carers.

A £20 donation would pay for 20 older people to enjoy a drop in group session, where they could just sit and talk with their peers and friends in a safe environment. They might play card games or have a fun game of bingo and feel less lonely at this time of year.

A £50 donation would cover the cost for 10 people with dementia and their carers, to enjoy one of our memory lane groups. Prama Memory Lane Groups are regular, open, friendly activities available to support people with dementia or memory loss as well as supporting their carers.
