Prama have partnered with SUBU (Student Union Bournemouth University) for the Big Give campaign 2023.
The 2023 SUBU Big Give, is an opportunity for students living in halls of residence on campus and in private rented accommodations, to have an end of year clear out when packing up and leaving. It is a way to educate and encourage students to donate their unwanted goods in order to prevent a mass of unwanted items going to landfill. Instead, it will be going to charities – promoting sustainability and in turn giving back to the community through the profits made.
It was said that ‘since 2013, by donating 95 metric tonnes of unwanted goods, BU students have raised over £195,888 for local charities.
This campaign will be continuing right through to 2nd September 2023, giving everyone the opportunity to get sorted and donate their unwanted items. This year, SUBU have partnered with different charities (Prama Charity, British Heart Foundation, The Trussell Trust), meaning there is a home for every single unwanted item that you own. This is important, as not all charities will accept the same types of donations as other places, including duvets, bedding, electricals, furniture, and canned food.
Halls of residence
To make it as easy as possible for students to donate their unwanted items, there is a list of locations where students will find Prama donation bins dotted around the area, places such as halls’ main reception, laundry rooms, communal lounge spaces and so on.
Private Accommodation
For students who live in private accommodation, donation bags and stickers will be delivered through their doors, all they need to do is sort their donations, bag them up and place them outside their residence ready for weekly collections by Prama. Donations are collected from 30 different streets!
Prama also offers fast and free collection of saleable furniture or other large items, if students wish to do so, they can contact 01202 207315 or Whatsapp 07460 298053 or email furniture@prama.uk.
Throughout the duration of this campaign, Prama will be taking donations of clothing, accessories, footwear, books, small household, and kitchen items.
SUBU Sustainability Strategy
The Prama team were excited to get on board with the SUBU Big Give campaign this year, due to the increasing responsibility for the protection of the environment and preventing a massive amount of preloved items going to landfill. SUBU defines sustainability as a focus on what we can do now for our present students to protect the future for incoming students; ensuring that our actions and events have a positive impact on the environment and the future of the campus, the local community, and the global environment. Any decision made is not just influenced by the effects on the environment but also SUBU’s members, staff, resources, and key stakeholders.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are embedded into every department within SUBU, enabling us to listen to students’ passions around sustainability; giving us an ability to empower them on their educational journey with clear consideration for the future of the environment and our society.
