"A heart for our community"
Welcome to our website and thank you for your interest in the work of PramaLife. Central to our work as a charity is the recognition that ageing is something that everyone does. We want it to be an enjoyable experience, where people retain their independence, self-worth and dignity. In achieving this our PramaLife services are influenced by local older people, and then delivered and monitored with their involvement.
We currently focus on Bournemouth, Christchurch, east Dorset and Poole offering a wide range of activities and services which look to directly tackle social isolation and lead to increased personal independence, self-sufficiency and dignity. Activities include:
dementia and age friendly clubs,
chaplaincy and befriending,
carers’ support groups,
local community activities and,
Some of our clubs focus on specific hobbies like gardening, sporting memories or keep fit, some support those living with dementia, others simply a space where people can talk over a coffee.
During 2018/19 we supported 16,635 people, achieving significant outcomes for them.
PramaLife enables older people to gain a new perspective on their lives:
"I find the group inspirational - it is often a wake-up call! You think you have problems to deal with - nothing compared to other people's problems!"
PramaLife connects and supports people who most need our help:
"This group is a lifeline for me and John. As his family/carer the group offers me emotional support and as well it's a great source of socialising/stimulation for John - please, never reduce the weeks."
Our services and support are of a good quality:
"I like coming to the group, made lots of new friends, lovely people, lovely group leader, everyone easy going, learnt lots of new things."
We reach people who are isolated:
"I was very pleased in discovering this group as I have been physically and mentally ill for many years and have felt very welcome and made friends."
And we do all of this alongside the older people themselves:
"I am a volunteer for this group but being among people makes life interesting, for everyone has a story to tell and I enjoy coming to this group."
Our aim is to develop more community-based services, which with the work of our partners will ensure that Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Dorset will be recognised nationally as an Age Friendly community.
Dementia Friendly Church
Prama also have recently picked up Dementia Friendly Churches project from Faithworks Wessex. This programme is looking to help churches across the UK become Dementia Friendly, whether from a building accessibility perspective to how it runs its services and activities. More information can be found on the Prama Foundation Website or at www.dementiafriendlychurch.org.uk
